TIME CAPSULE FOUND!!!

Thirty-one summers ago, campers and counselors put a time capsule together, gathered around and buried it in the ground at Stonybrook Day Camp. Over the years, the search for its location has gone on. And now, finally, the search is over…

On July 20th,2010 at approximately 2 o’clock in the afternoon, a long time camper, Zach Solano found the time capsule. The excitement at this news rivaled the beginning of Color War!! Zach was using a metal detector during his group’s period at Eco Adventure. He was moving the equipment over the ground by upper flagpole when suddenly ‘the metal detector started going crazy’. Roger, who is always out on camp, moved quickly to the site. His long search seemed to be over and his anticipation and excitement was contagious. The entire camp- campers, counselors and specialists, gathered at the site while staff members dug the capsule out. Shelly, who was at camp when the capsule was first buried, was also there to witness the momentous event. Were it not for our newest program Eco Adventure, lead by Specialist, Jenna Crithary, the location of the time capsule from 1979 would more than likely still be a mystery.

The anticipation was long in coming. The excitement was palpable. The Daily Record was on site to record the event.
