THE STONYBROOK VAN CHALLENGE!

At Stonybrook we always say, “Camp starts when you get on the bus”. We have formalized this concept with a fun competition called The Stonybrook Van Challenge. Why? Because while safety is always our number one priority, we see time on the bus as yet another opportunity to engage campers in a good time. At the beginning of camp all families received a Van Challenge Schedule that listed the theme competition for each day and the number of points that could be earned each day.

We have already had many fun challenges including: Toy Story 3, World Cup and Decorate your Van. Creativity was especially high on Crazy Hat Day. As each camper exited their van at camp, we were amazed at the variety and inventiveness of their hats. Both campers and counselors sported hats they had at home or had made themselves.

Right now, Van 5 is in the lead with Van 6 a close second. But the challenge is just underway. Every day the vans are coming in and our campers are WOWING us with their creativity, lead by our wonderful van counselors' ingenuity and incredible spirit!! At this point, no one can tell who will win the Stonybrook Van Challenge. We look forward to each morning when our campers come off their vans, to see how the van counselors have inspired them to bring the theme of the day to life! It could be costumes, a skit, a song…. Our creative counselors are always looking to help our campers get the most from each of our themes. We want our campers to enjoy each day's ride to and from camp and the Stonybrook Van Challenge accomplishes this goal.

Please note: Camp theme days (as listed on our camp calendar) are quite often different than the van challenge themes.
