YAD SDRAWKCAB
Don’t be surprised if your camper asks you for breakfast instead of dinner when they arrive home tonight! Why, because it is YAD SDRAWKCAB aka BACKWARDS DAY!!!!! In typical van challenge spirit, our campers and staff came off the vans today wearing various articles of clothing backwards. We heard some tags were cut in the process, but it was for a good cause.
And to continue the theme, we started off our day, lowering the flag and enjoying ice cream, just the way we typically end each day at Stonybrook. Some have requested we keep ice cream as a morning activity but not to worry, many of us working at camp are parents, and tomorrow it is back to our regular schedule.
Some groups took the theme seriously walking backwards, trying to sing songs backwards and even spelling words and names backwards, all in good fun! But many things were consistent about the day. Those who had enrolled in the Basketball Clinic worked on skills and drills, followed by a scrimmage. Clinic participants joined their groups at the end of third period. Many campers enjoyed arts and crafts, Super Science and Eco Adventure. Over at Arts & Crafts, they are building, gluing, painting and creating fabulous projects to bring home to their parents. Some groups visited our Cooking Specialists where they enjoyed dipping fruit in chocolate or making Monkey Bread. Other campers participated in sports including t-ball and soccer.
And yes, at the end of the day, we raised the flag before boarding the vans! You will be surprised at how such a simple thing like running our day backwards can bring smiles and laughs all around.
