At Stonybrook we always say, “camp starts on the bus”. We have formalized this concept with a fun competition called the Stonybrook Van Challenge. Why? Because while safety is always our number one priority, we see time on the bus as yet another opportunity to provide our campers with a good time. At the beginning of camp all families received a Van Challenge Schedule that listed out the theme competition days (bus counselor should have given it to you) and the number of points that can be earned each day. By the way, it is called Van Challenge rather than Bus challenge because Stonybrook is all about tradition and way back when our campers took vans.
We have already had many fun challenges including: License Plate Day, Let's Cheer for Stonybrook Day, and Decorate your Van. Creativity was at a high as we saw our Van Counselors and Parents really take it to another level this year. If you are on our leading buses, great job for wowing us with some incredible spirit. And if your bus is not in the lead, not to worry, you have the rest of the summer to catch up. Our winning bus will earn a trip to Dairy Queen! And that is one trip that always brings smiles as soft serve and Summer just go together!
We welcome all campers and bus counselors to brainstorm ways their bus can bring the bus challenge of the day to life. It could be costumes, a skit, a song…. If you need clarification on what a theme is, ask your bus counselor. And parents can get in on the fun too. Please share your ideas with your bus counselor and let the ride to camp be a good time.
Please note, camp theme days are often different. These are simply bus challenges. The main camp calendar will match the bus calendar when it can!
