Spirit Week is full of tradition and history. Started in 1950, campers made banners and plaques. They also performed songs and showed their camp spirit. The week was designed to build camaraderie and connections with friends, counselors and everything camp.
Today, the purpose is the same but like everything, we have taken it to the next level. In addition to banners and songs, our campers design t-shirts and choreograph dances to go along with their performances. And these performances are not just any old song and dance. Campers begin working on or thinking about their spirit week performances the FIRST day of camp. Their faces typically light up with pride when they are asked to perform and this is because all of the campers, even our shy campers, have bought into the importance of working together as a bunk to show their spirit.
All groups will perform on Friday and throughout the week they will be judged by our secret judges, so they must be on their spirit toes at all times. And trust us when we say, Friday is not where the spirit ends. We will be hearing these songs all summer long!
Don't forget to
