ATV'S

We have heard that a little red sports car named Lightning McQueen says, “Speed….I am Speed.”….. well….has he met some of our campers? Before kids are able to drive ATVs they learn about the rules of the road. After demonstrating competency and a clear understanding of the course rules, licenses are issued. Campers hold these licenses with pride.

This week at Stonybrook Day Camp, we have been time trialing on the ATV course. Because safety is always our number one priority, the ATVs are set to not exceed a certain speed. However, driving an ATV is not just about pressing the gas, closing your eyes and making it happen (yikes!). There is lots of skill involved as kids learn about steering and respecting the course. In addition to keeping a stop watch for time, the riders were rewarded for safe rides while they received penalty time for excess speed. While there were many excellent times recorded, Claire Donfield holds the record with a 3 lap time of 1 minute and 22.4 seconds. The single lap record was recorded by Matt Krinick with a time of 27.6 seconds. A great time was had by all and maybe…. Just maybe hide those car keys!
