Staff training 2012 was held this weekend, and staff learned
about camp policies, activities and Stonybrook Day Camp’s overall philosophy. Safety, leading by example and keeping
camp fun were big themes during training.
Staff were also encouraged to help campers connect with others and
develop friendships.
Day one welcomed new staff only and topics covered included staff
expectations, camper needs and different perspectives, among other topics. All staff, new and returning, attended
day two of training and staff learned about camper safety, bullying awareness, downtime
activities and the power of camp in creating change. The leadership team, the
aquatics director and the camp nurse all lead sessions and shared their
expertise. Morris Gold, from the
camp insurance company, Sobel & Co., came to speak about safety and the
important role that staff have in ensuring safety through smart decision making. We also had a special Staff BBQ and our local business Gilenson--The Gas Grill Experts was there to lead the way!
Staff met their co-counselors, decided
on their group names and began planning for the beginning of camp. It was a fabulous start to what
will be an amazing summer. Bring
it on….. we are ready!
