Back to School
While we are busy with camp tours, planning for 2011 and Octoberfest preparation, we realize that all of our Stonybrook families and many staff are very busy themselves- heading back into the classroom! We are wishing you a wonderful start to the school year. Let it be a year filled with exciting learning experiences and many good times. Let it also be a year that brings some Stonybrook into the classroom.
Did your child leave camp a bit more confident because he/she mastered the zip line, excelled at a sport or learned to swim? Now that it is back to school time, how can that confidence continue to grow? This is a challenging question, but one that teachers work hard to embrace and tackle for their students. As parents we can think about using our kids time wisely; what activities really capture their interest and give them an opportunity to excel?
Did your child have a great summer when it came to their behavior because they could run and run and run and get their energy out in a very healthy way? Now that he or she will be back in a classroom setting, how can they stay on track? One camper in particular had this issue at school and his mom shared with us that camp allowed her to see the potential her son has; she doesn’t worry about him as much, but rather taps into ways he can keep moving and get his energy out in a productive way.
Did your child make some fantastic friends this summer, but they live in different towns? Sometimes it is a nice change of pace to break out of your normal routine and see a friendly camp face…. Plan a mini reunion for late fall or early winter! Plan to attend Octoberfest on Saturday, October 2nd.
As your child starts school, think about how to bring some Stonybrook into their school year… that is of course after carpool, lunches and schedules are set. And when things get hectic (and we know they will), try to think back to the ease of summer and slow down (if possible). Most importantly, have a great school year!
