News Flash: Dance Party

RANDOLPH, NJ - Yesterday at the pool, DJ Jazzy Jeff led a groovin' dance party! Campers and counselors showcased their best moves both in and out of the water. News Flash: Trailblazer Girls

RANDOLPH, NJ - The trailblazer girls are having an awesome summer so far! We have been on many awesome trips such as Dorney Park, NJ Red Bulls, Mountain Creek, Liberty Science Center and Tomahawk Lake! Today is our DJ dance party and we had a blast! We are so excited for the rest of the summer!

News Flash: Basketball Clinic

RANDOLPH, NJ - Wednesday morning, more than two dozen campers participated in our basketball clinic.

Coming up fast on the heels of our baseball, soccer and tennis clinics, our basketball clinic is off to a shooting start. Our own Coach Jim Stricchiola, one of our amazing Sports Specialist, who during the school year, teaches physical education and coaches basketball led the campers in this fast paced, exciting activity. Jim ran an intense session of defense, dribbling, passing and shooting drills with an emphasis on form, followed by scrimmages. This allowed the future NBA stars the opportunity to implement the skills they were fine tuning. Jim noted that the ‘campers worked really hard and enjoyed themselves at the same time’. As the temperature rose, so did the energy on the court. The players had plenty of water at their disposal. Coach Rob Moore, who assisted at the clinic, said “the campers had a great time, while working on their basketball fundamentals.”

Our basketball clinic runs through Thursday.

News Flash: Lunch

RANDOLPH, NJ - How much do you know about lunch at Stonybrook?

A healthy style hot lunch is served to campers every day. Five years ago, Stonybrook began to provide lunch for our campers on a daily basis.

Campers and counselors favorites include; pizza, baked chicken fingers, pigs in blankets, tater tots, burgers, hot dogs and our famous "pasta-que".

Each day our campers also have substitute options such as bagels, tuna salad, chicken salad, yogurt and fresh fruit.

Of course, lunch is always served with dessert! Some of our camper favorites are cupcakes and brownie squares (all healthy, of course).

Stonybrook News: The Lightening Bolts

Greetings from the Lightening Bolts!

This week, we had the sun and more fantastic fun! We made cupcakes at cooking and played baseball with Rich. Then we had a great time splashing up a storm at the pool and water day.

We're the Lightening Bolts and we're okay! We play all night and we play all day!!!!

News Flash: Rocketry

RANDOLPH, NJ - In the rocketry elective, campers build, decorate and launch 1406 Alpha III model rockets! Rich Gordon is leading our rocketry elective for his third year. Throughout the week, campers create their rockets, culminating in launch-day Friday. The campers wear special rocket sombreros as the rockets fly over 400 feet high! Trailblazer boys counselor Ian Schwindel assists with the elective. Ian says, "I look forward to it every Friday. Nothing gets me more pumped than a good rocket launch!"

Exciting New Elective

An exciting new elective is coming to Stonybrook! Campers will now have the opportunity to write for the Stonybrook Day Camp blog! Each post will feature a different activity or staff member which our campers will write about. This elective will be supervised by Journalism major, Dan Willets, who will help our campers improve upon their writing and information gathering skills!

Stonybrook News: The Glamour Girls

The Glamour Girls are off to a great start to spirit week 2009. Even though we are very busy playing at tennis this week's clinic, climbing at the challenge course and making it to higher levels at the pool, we still make time to cheer around camp to earn more spirit points! We can't wait to perform our spirit week song in front of the entire camp on Friday!

Stonybrook News: The Beach Boys

Don't think that the stormy weather gets us down here at Stonybrook. The Beach Boys had a fun filled day yesterday of cubbie bowling, musical chairs, kick ball and frisbee golf! Today, we couldn't wait to get back into the pool where we are making amazing progress. We'll be practicing our round house kicks in martial arts and perfecting our tennis swings too. Don't forget to come out tomorrow to Newark Academy to watch the counselor softball league. The game starts at 6:30.
